Laser Marking and Engraving Technical Terms.

Laser Engraving
Example images, A process where material is actually removed or vaporized with a laser. The images may consist of both text, portraits and other security feature.

Laser Engraving
Laser Etching / laser engraving: these terms are used interchangeably

Laser ablation
Laser   ablation is the process by which layers are removed from solid metals and industrial compounds using a laser beam for ultimate precision.  Example. he process of removing coatings like anodization, black oxide, plating, masking, or insulation via irradiation from a laser beam

Laser Annealing
Laser  annealing, as the words imply, performs annealing using a laser, rapidly heating the surface and allow it to self-cool in order to create oxide layers on the surface.

Laser Color Change
Color Change Example.JPGThis mark type uses the energy of the laser beam to alter the molecular structure of the piece, making a visible change in the color of the plastic or Stainless steel substrate without damaging the surface of the material.

Laser foaming
Laser   foaming is a process by which a laser beam is used on a polymer material to melt and form foam-like bubbles which are fixed in the material structure creating a negative relief of the position where the laser marked.,however the process actually raises the level of the material so it appears like a foam on the surface of the plastic.

Laser Polishing  of Metals
Lasers can be used to polish metal surfaces like steel to achieve better smoothness . Polishing with laser radiation is based on the remelting of a thin surface layer of the work piece and smoothing of the surface roughness due to the surface tension.
